1311557 Change-speed control NISSAN MOTOR CO Ltd 6 Nov 1970 [12 Nov 1969] 52894/70 Heading F2D A compound three-position fluid-pressure servo, providing neutral, second and third ratio positioning of a 2-3 claw clutch, in an all-clutched (including reverse) constant-mesh automatic countershaft gear, driven through a torque-converter on a motor vehicle, comprises a stepped inner piston 26, secured to a clutchactuating rod 50, and slidable in a bore 16 in a fixed cylinder and also in a bore in a piston 24, slidable in a larger bore 14 in the cylinder. Applying pressure fluid at both ends 18, 20 causes the inner piston to assume the central neutral position shown. Blanking the end 20 causes pressure 18, passing through a central aperture 36 in the large piston 24, to move the inner piston 26 to the extreme right, whilst blanking the end 18 causes pressure 20 to move both pistons together to the extreme left. In the countershaft gear, Fig. 2, not shown, the first-ratio and reverse claw clutch is moved only manually, the first ratio including a oneway clutch, which overruns when the engine is decelerated for 1-2 upshift. By exhausting both ends 18, 20 of the three-position 2-3 servo, 2-3 shifts can also be made manually by a separate lever. Power 2-3 shifts are normally made by decelerating the engine to permit first neutralizing, then synchronizing and gear-establishment. No separating clutch is used. |
