PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming device which achieves cost reduction by reducing a unit light quantity of each light emitting element in a multi-beam-type light emitting unit. SOLUTION: In the image forming device, a laser diode unit LDU_BK for black is of a multiple type having a plurality of laser diodes LD (LD_BK1, LD_BK2). In a main scanning when a color mode is selected by a control unit 40, tracks of beams BM (BM_BK1, BM_BK2) from the laser diodes LD (LD_BK1, LD_BK2) are superimposed on each other on a photo conductor 22_BK. On the other hand in the main scanning when a monochrome mode is selected by the control unit 40, tracks of beams BM (BM_BK1, BM_BK2) from the laser diodes LD (LD_BK1, LD_BK2) are separated from each other on the photo conductor 22_BK.
