PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve printing in different gradation numbers by using head control sections in a common structure. SOLUTION: This head unit is equipped with drive elements corresponding to nozzles and the control section for driving the drive elements to eject liquid droplets from the nozzles. The control section includes a first input section and a second input section. In the case where the printing in a first gradation number is carried out, a first signal is input to the first input section and a second signal is input to the second input section, and then the drive element is driven according to the first and second signals. In the case where the printing in a second gradation number is carried out, a first signal is input to the first input section and a constant voltage is input to the second input section, and then the drive element is driven according to the first signal.
