PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer in which consumption of ink can be suppressed while suppressing occurrence of poor print which a user cannot permit by performing maintenance operation depending on the frequency desired by the user. SOLUTION: In multifunction peripheral equipment 1, a purge interval can be determined depending on the frequency of purge processing desired by the user by determining the purge period depending on the number of times of purge processing performed based on the user operation. Upon elapsing the purge interval thus determined after previous purge processing is performed, the purge processing is performed automatically and ejection state of ink is recovered. Since purge processing is performed depending on the frequency desired by the user, the number of times of performing purge processing can be reduced as much as possible while suppressing occurrence of poor print which a user cannot permit.
