<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a color image display device which has a high display quality and high light use efficiency and can be manufactured at a low cost. <P>SOLUTION: One pixel is constituted of three display areas of a green display area 52, a red/blue display area 51, and a non-colored display area 53. In the green display area 52, a green color filter 70G is disposed, and a liquid crystal layer is operated in a retardation range from white to black. In the red/blue display area 51, a magenta color filter 70M is disposed, and the liquid crystal is operated in a retardation range from red to blue. In the non-colored display area 53, no color filters are disposed, and the liquid crystal layer is operated in a retardation range from white to black. White is displayed in the non-colored display area 53 when white is displayed on the pixel 50 by green display of the green display area 52 and magenta color display of the red/blue display area 51, whereby an image twice as bright as images of the conventional RGB color filter system is displayed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
