The invention relates to a device for switching at least one current. Said switching device comprises a switching mechanism in a switching chamber. The switching mechanism is used for appropriately interrupting and connecting a current path. Switching devices often have a protective function, e.g. relative to a power supply system, thus making it desirable for defects and wear within the switching device to be recognized to support the protective function. In order to do so, the switching device is further developed in such a way that at least one temperature detection unit can be used for recognizing defects and wear within the switching device.
