<p>Disclosed is a model which can reflect the morbid condition of proliferative diabetic retinopathy at a better level than a conventional one. More specifically, disclosed are: a tissue culture comprising a retina, a vitreous body attached to the retina and a tubular new blood vessel extending from the retina into the vitreous body; a model system for use in the evaluation of neovascularization, particularly neovascularization in proliferative diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion, age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema or cancer, wherein the model system comprises the tissue culture; a method for production of a retina culture having a tubular new blood vessel, wherein the method comprises culturing a removed retina having a vitreous body attached thereto in the presence of a factor having an angiogenesis-inducing activity; a method for screening of a substance capable of inhibiting the angiogenesis; a method for screening of a substance capable of controlling the state of a blood vessel; and others.</p> |
