摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for rotating a polarization plane that can be easily manufactured and can control a rotation amount of a polarization plane. SOLUTION: The device has a semiconductor layer 102, for example, made of silicon on a lower clad layer 101 made of silicon oxide or silicon nitride. The semiconductor layer 102 has a core 121 in a ridge structure extended in a prescribed direction and is provided with a p-type slab portion 122 and an n-type slab portion 123 in both sides of the core 121. The device has a p-type region 104 and an n-type region 105 in the p-type slab portion 122 and the n-type slab portion 123, respectively, in both sides of the core 121 and in a part of the waveguide with the core 121 as a center and along the guiding direction, and is provided with an electromagnet 131 to apply a magnetic field in the guiding direction of the waveguide comprising the core 121, and with a magnetic field control section 132 to control the electromagnet 131.
