PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide stable contact between a transfer member and a belt even in image forming operation in an image forming apparatus using the transfer member with the surface in contact with the inner surface of the belt. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises a photosensitive drum 12 for carrying a toner image, a movable belt 31 and a transfer member 110 opposed to the drum 12 through the belt 31; where, the transfer member 110 has a contact surface 110a in contact with the belt 31, and when the belt 31 is moved, the belt 31 rubs the contact surface 110a of the transfer member 110 and a toner image is transferred from a position, opposite to the contact surface 110a, on the drum 12.
