1297672 Welding by pressure K E STANLEY 19 April 1971 [22 Jan 1970] 3264/70 Heading B3R [Also in Divisions E2 and F2] A fastener comprises a head 1 in the form of a metal sheet and a metal shank 4 electrically projection welded to ribs on the sheet, said ribs being only three in number. The metal sheet has two rings of holes 2 and three upwardly displaced ribs 3 extending between holes in the inner ring and terminating at holes in the outer ring. A nut 4 is projection welded to the ribs 3 and when the head 1 is embedded in the laminated plastics hull of a boat the thread of the nut receives a part to be held by the fastener. A bolt, hook or stud may replace the nut and portions may be displaced from the sheet to form barbs. In a modification only one ring of holes is provided and a hole is provided in the head coaxial with the hole in the nut, the fastener being screwed to a threaded pin projecting through a cardboard wall of a box. The pin is welded to one end of a metal strap which has a hole at the other end through which a nail is passed to embed in a wooden base of the box. |
