<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airbag device for an automobile capable of opening a door at the center part of a vehicle width direction later than both sides thereof without precisely controlling a depth of a cleavage groove. <P>SOLUTION: Whole of an opening/closing lid 6 is not merely divided into three parts in the vehicle width direction, but first of all, it is divided into two parts, a front side door part 8 and a rear side door part 9, in the longitudinal direction. Afterward, the rear side door part 9 is divided into three parts, one center door part 9a and two side door parts 9b, in the vehicle width direction. Consequently, the area of the center door part 9a corresponding to an occupant head part 11 becomes smaller than a conventional one. When the area of the center door part 9a becomes small, the expansive force (=pressure×area) of the airbag 5 applied from the back side of the center door part 9a also becomes small. In case of vehicle collision, since the center door part 9a hits against an abnormally approaching occupant head part 11, the opening of the center door part 9a is pushed by the occupant head 11, and a side door part 9b of both sides in the vehicle width direction opens first.
