PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a non-ejection nozzle detecting device which can easily cope with change of a length of a recording head. SOLUTION: The non-ejection detecting sensor is arranged on a side of a recording surface of the recording head and outside a printing region, and secured so as to take up a length at least longer than the length of the recording head. The non-ejection detecting sensor is formed of: a light emitting element for emitting light from one side with respect to the recording head length in a nozzle row direction of the recording head; a reflector for reflecting the light emitted from the light emitting element; a light receiving element for receiving the light reflected by the reflector, and an electric section having an automatic power control function for monitoring a light quantity reaching the light receiving section, and carrying out feed-back control of a current value according to fluctuation of the light quantity, to thereby keep a digital value to a constant value.
