PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a "vehicle periphery image display device" for displaying an image representing its own vehicle and the periphery of its own vehicle in an expression with reality to the utmost extent while strictly grasping a relationship between ends of its own vehicle and the periphery of its own vehicle. SOLUTION: An image representing the outward appearance of its own vehicle as a simulated image and an image representing contour lines of a region obtained resulting from vertically projecting its own vehicle on a road surface and wheels of its own vehicle as a projected image are prepared, its own vehicle display image 302 is generated by combining both the images, and the generated own vehicle display image 302 is arranged on a perspective image 301 to generate display images a to e. A composite characteristic of both the images is controlled so that transparency of the simulated image is much more increased as a distance is smaller thereby clearly revealing the projected image depending on the distance between its own vehicle and an object sensed by a periphery sensor 105.
