PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To freely bring a printing head to a predetermined electric potential when the printing head and a printing recording liquid-receiving region are at a predetermined distance from each other. SOLUTION: An electric potential switching mechanism 60 is equipped with a carriage shaft 28 which connects the printing head 24 to the ground via a contact plate 61, a connection switching member 62 connected to the ground where an electrical connection to the carriage shaft 28 is released by an insulation part 62a when a platen gap is a potential separating distance, and a platen gap adjusting mechanism 64 which switches the platen gap. In the electric potential switching mechanism 60, in carrying out frameless printing or nozzle inspection of inspecting whether or not ink droplets can be normally delivered from a nozzle 23, when the platen gap adjusting mechanism 64 makes the platen gap the potential separation distance by moving the carriage shaft 28 up and down, the insulation part 62a is brought into contact with the carriage shaft 28 to cut the connection to the ground, whereby the printing head 24 becomes a state separated from a ground potential.
