PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steering device which dispenses with adjusting of any sliding resistance during the telescopic movement, capable of reducing the assembly man-hour, obtaining the consistent telescopic sliding resistance, and preventing the rigidity from being fluctuated according to the direction of the force applied to the steering device. SOLUTION: Inner circumferential grooves 45, 45 of the diameter larger than the inside diameter of the inner circumference 43 are formed on the inner circumference 43 of an outer column 4 in a separated manner in the axial direction of the outer column 4. Fastening rings 6, 6 are fitted to the inner circumferential grooves 45, 45. Taking into consideration the tolerance of the outside diameter dimension of the outer circumference 31 of an inner column 3, and the tolerance of the inside diameter dimension of the inner circumferential groove 45 of the outer column 4, the height in the radial direction of a projecting part 61A on the inner circumferential side of the fastening ring 6 and a projecting part on the outer circumferential side, the spacing in the circumferential direction between the projecting part 61A on the inner circumferential side and the projecting part 61B on the outer circumferential side, and the thickness of a spring steel are selected so that the telescopic sliding resistance F2 reaches the predetermined value.
