PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data storage device suitable for use in the environment where mechanical impact is frequently applied. SOLUTION: In the data storage device provided with a plurality of storage units each of which is a sealed structure having a storage medium relatively movable to a head for access is housed, an external force detecting means outputting signals according to external force in a plurality of directions applied to the plurality of storage units and a controller controlling the plurality of storage units are provided, the plurality of storage units are so disposed that relative moving directions of the storage mediums to the head are different from each other and the controller selects the storage unit to be operated for access according to the signal outputted by the external force detecting means.
