PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of appropriately focusing, and to provide a control method thereof. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes: a first focus lens control means for controlling the focus lens to stop the drive after the focus lens is driven; a second focus lens control means for controlling the focus lens to be successively driven; and a moving-image recording instructing means for instructing to record a moving image. The drive of the focus lens is controlled by the second focus lens control means in reply to the instructions from the moving-image recording instructing means, and when the instructions are given by the moving-image recording instructing means in a period when the drive of the focus lens is stopped by the first focus lens control means, the control by the first focus lens control means is stopped, and the drive of the focus lens is controlled by the second focus lens control means.
