PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixation plate assembly which can fix fixed angle screws or variable angle screws in a single plate, and to provide a fixation assembly which can fix one or more bone screws onto the plate. SOLUTION: A plating system 30 includes an elongate plate 31 and a number of bone screws 32. The bone screws 32 are held to the plate 31 by way of a plurality of locking screw assemblies 33. The elongate plate 31 is equipped with screw holes 34 in a variety of arrangements. The plate is also divided into standard vertebral nodes 35 so that the sides of the plate give a serpentine appearance of the side of the plate. The plate 31, especially, has a groove between the nodes 35 in order to decrease the outer shape and dimensions of the plate. Furthermore, a part with a reduced width between respective nodes 35, provides a region of a reduced material so that the plate required by the anatomical structure of the vertebra can be further bent.
