PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam generating apparatus which improves efficiency of generating steam by effectively diffusing hot water in a prescribed region of a heat exchanger and easily achieves the most appropriate humidification amount or the like. SOLUTION: The steam generating apparatus is characterized by having the heat exchanger disposed in a housing, a diffusion pipe which is disposed in the neighborhood of the heat exchanger in the housing and generates the steam by diffusing hot water in the heat exchanger heated by a heating means, and a control means for changing the diffusion regions of hot water to the heat exchanger from the diffusion pipe. The control means changes the diffusion region between at least two regions set in advance and changes the diffusion regions of the hot water by controlling the water flow to a plurality of the diffusion pipes or by controlling an angle and/or a position of the pipe to the heat exchanger.
