Disclosed is a medical navigation system comprising a device for detecting in a preferably contactless manner the position of a patient's body part which is to be treated and is provided with at least one reference mark and detecting in a preferably contactless manner the position of a medical instrument, especially an endoscope, to which at least one reference mark is assigned. An additional distance measuring apparatus (27) is provided for measuring in a preferably contactless manner the distance (D_i) between an object (A_i), particularly a point on the body of the patient who is to be treated, and a marked point (9a) on the medical instrument (9).
