A power converter comprising a set of two main circuit switching elements (4u, 4x) connected in series with a DC voltage source and supplying power to a load, reflux diodes (5u, 5x) connected in reverse parallel with respective main circuit switching elements, and a circuit (8) for applying a reverse voltage lower than a voltage from the DC voltage source to respective reflux diodes when the reflux diodes are cut off, wherein the reverse voltage applying circuit comprises a circuit (10) for suppressing a main circuit current flowing through a low voltage DC voltage power supply at the time of reverse recovery of the reflux diodes.
