<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk reproducing apparatus whereby a user enjoys vigorous audio even when an audio amplifier incompatible with two or more channels is connected to the optical disk reproducing apparatus or a like fact takes place. <P>SOLUTION: At application of power to the optical disk reproducing apparatus, a control section first acquires compatible channel information of a connection destination apparatus connected to the optical disk reproducing apparatus via an HDMI cable (#1). When a command of reproduction start is entered via a remote controller (YES in #2) and there is a channel not included in a "channel configuration of the connected destination apparatus" in a "source channel configuration" (YES in #3), down-mix processing is started (#4), and an audio output is started for the connection destination apparatus (#5).
