<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To normalize the pressing force of a vane by detecting the pressure in a vane chamber to normalize the discharge pressure guided into the vane chamber. <P>SOLUTION: This vane pump comprises a rotor 13 in which a plurality of axially extending vane grooves 16 are radially formed, vanes 14 radially movably inserted into the vane grooves 16, a casing body 10 storing the rotor 13 and the vanes 14 and having, on its inner periphery, a cam surface 10a formed to come into contact with the ends of the vanes 14, and a side plate 11 closing one end of the casing body 10. A vane chamber is formed at the bottom of the vane grooves 16. An opening 23 is formed in the side plate 11 to face the vane chamber 17a at the position where the vanes 14 are fully inserted into the vane grooves 16.
