PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge tube which can obtain high color reproducibility without enlarging a backlight device and can rectify the chromaticity of mixed light emitted from a discharge tube group even if light adjustment on the surface of a liquid display panel is changed, and provide a backlight device using the discharge tube. SOLUTION: The discharge tube for a backlight device is provided with a first discharge tube 1 which is coated with a first phosphor and a second discharge tube 2 which is coated with a second phosphor having larger relative strength when wavelength-converted light is adjusted compared with the relative strength of the wavelength-converted light by the first phosphor.
