PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organometallic complex emitting phosphorescence. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the organometallic complex having a structure represented by general formula (1). In the general formula (1) each of R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>represents any one of hydrogen, an alkyl group, a halogen group, -CF<SB>3</SB>, an alkoxy group, and an aryl group. M represents an element that belongs to Group 9 or Group 10. An alkyl group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms is preferable in the alkyl group, especially a group selected from a methyl group, an ethyl group, an isopropyl group, sec-butyl, t-butyl group, is preferred. A fluoro group is particularly preferable in the halogen group. An alkoxy group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms is preferable in the alkoxy group, especially a methoxy group is preferred. A phenyl group is particularly preferable in the aryl group.
