PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of using a sorting function even when storage capacity for image volume is small, an image forming method and an image formation program. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 200 is provided with an image acquiring means 651 for acquiring an image in a multivalued format from the outside in a color mode for forming a color image and acquiring an image in a binary format from the outside in a monochrome mode for forming a monochrome image, and a volatile memory 66 for storing a monochrome image in the binary format when the image acquiring means 651 acquires the monochrome image in the binary format.
