PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information management method for easily carrying out information management by unifying genre tables between information recording and reproducing devices in the case of copying data or moving the data of a moving picture audio file between the information recording and reproducing devices. SOLUTION: In the case of copying the data or moving the data of the moving picture audio file between the information recording and reproducing devices by connecting the recording and reproducing device of a sender and the recording and reproducing device of a transmission destination, genre information items and genre IDs of the genre tables of both the devices are unified. Unifying the genre tables of both the devices enables the transmission destination and the sender to use the unified genre table, even when the genre tables of the sender and the transmission destination are not coincident with each other, and convenience of users is enhanced.
