PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for cutting a top board of a drum can capable of easily cutting the top board of the drum can in a short time, and preventing fingers or the like from being injured caused by the cut remaining part of the top board. SOLUTION: The method for cutting the top board of the drum can uses a top board cutting apparatus 1 equipped with a loading stand 11, a frame body 12 standing on the loading stand so as to surround the drum can 2 placed on the loading stand, and a top board cutting means 13 fitted on an upper frame part 121 so as to be vertically moved, and in which the top board cutting means has a cutting blade fixing plate, a cutting blade and a guide ring, and a tapered part is provided on the outer peripheral face of the guide ring. The method for cutting the top board of the drum can keeps the drum can 2 placed on the loading stand 11 so as to make the top board upward, and thereafter, the top board cutting means is moved downward, a part except the peripheral edge part of the top board is cut, and the tapered part of a cutting blade fitting body is brought into contact with the peripheral edge part of the top board, and the peripheral edge part is deformed downward.
