PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lubricating oil for tapping machining that can suppress cohesion of an aluminum abrasion powder in tapping machining and reduce an amount of remaining oil after tapping machining, and a tapping machining method. SOLUTION: The lubricating oil for tapping machining is used for forming in an aluminum material a threaded hole having an effective screw depth of at most 10 mm for metric fine pitch threads of at most M5×0.5. The tapping method comprises using the lubricating oil. The lubricating oil for tapping machining comprises a base oil, 1-30 pts.wt., based on 100 pts.wt. of the base oil, of an oily agent, and 1-10 pts.wt., based on 100 pts.wt. of the base oil, of an extreme pressure agent. The base oil comprises a synthetic hydrocarbon and/or a mineral oil-based hydrocarbon having an initial boiling point of 192-297°C, an end point of 219-353°C and a kinematic viscosity of 1.5-11 cSt. The oily agent comprises at least one selected from among higher alcohols, synthetic esters, fatty acids, and fats and oils.
