<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a characteristic of a field winding-type synchronous generator motor without raising cost. <P>SOLUTION: The field winding-type synchronous generator motor is provided with a rotating electric machine which has armature winding and field winding and operates as a generator motor, a power converter which is connected to the rotating electric machine and has a function controlling the rotary electric machine, a position detecting means for detecting a rotor position of the rotary electric machine, a correction amount storage storing a correction amount improving a characteristic of the rotating electric machine from a reference position of a rotor in the rotating electric machine, a position correction operator correcting position information from a value of the position detecting means and a value of the correction amount storing part, a conduction phase storage storing a conduction phase from the reference position of the rotating electric machine to each armature winding of the rotating electric machine, and a rectangular wave application voltage command indicating rectangular wave application voltage to each armature winding of the rotary electric machine.
