<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell unit capable of easily detecting a remaining fuel amount, safely driving and effectively utilizing fuel. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell unit is equipped with a unit body having an electromotive part; a fuel cartridge 50 detachably attached to the unit body and for housing fuel L; and a remaining amount detecting part detecting the remaining amount of fuel in the fuel cartridge. The remaining amount detecting part has an acoustic wave oscillator 70 installed in the unit body and dispatching acoustic waves to the fuel cartridge and an acoustic wave receiver 72 installed so as to face the acoustic wave oscillator and interpose the fuel cartridge and receiving the acoustic waves dispatched from the acoustic oscillator.
