PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an additive composition which is used for oils having lubrication viscosities, has improved abrasion resistance, an oxidation-preventing property and a corrosion-preventing property, and has an additional advantage for reducing lead corrosion. SOLUTION: This lubricant composition comprises a major amount of an oil having a lubrication viscosity, an alkaline earth metal borate sulfonate cleanser, and optionally a molybdenum-containing compound, wherein the lubricant composition does not contain phosphorus in an amount exceeding 0.12 mass%, and the sulfate ash content of the lubricant does not exceed 1.25 mass%.
