摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device which is free of disclination and provides bright display and has a high contrast based upon vertical alignment at low cost. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device of the present invention has a liquid crystal layer 50, formed of liquid crystal which is vertically aligned in an initial state and has negative dielectric anisotropy, sandwitched between a pair of substrates 10 and 20 is equipped with a plurality of pixel parts X and has alignment films 40 and 60 formed on the substrates 10 and 20 on sides of the liquid crystal layer 50. The alignment films 40 and 60 comprise vertical alignment films 41 and 61 which align liquid crystal in the pixel parts X and horizontal alignment films 42 and 62 which align liquid crystal at peripheries of the pixel parts X and have a pretilt at a specified azimuth angle.
