PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a copolymer for optical uses which not only is excellent in transmisivity at 405 nm, heat resistance and fluidity, but also can have a sufficient strength as an optical element; and a molded-article for optical use comprising the copolymer. SOLUTION: This copolymer comprises: 20 to 85% by mass of a methyl methacrylate unit; 5 to 20% by mass of an unit derived from a lactone compound represented by formula (1): (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>independently represent a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or an ethyl group and the total carbon number of R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>is 1 to 3); and 10 to 60% by mass of a trifluoroethyl methacrylate unit, wherein when assumed that the mass of the unit derived from the lactone compound represented by formula (1) is 1, the mass of the trifluoroethyl methacrylate unit is in the range of 1.0 to 5.0 and this copolymer is a copolymer for optical uses which has a glass transition temperature of 110°C or more and a melt flow rate (230°C, 37.2 N) of 10 g/10 min or more and which is suitable for an object lens, a prism, a condenser lens, a diffraction grating, a collimator lens and a sensor lens.
