PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating a surface of a plastic which can be used for imparting various functions such as hydrophilicity, hydrophobicity, high mechanical strength and the adhesiveness with a thin film to the surface. SOLUTION: This method for treating comprises decomposing hydrogen molecules into atomic hydrogen atoms by a catalyst under reduced pressure and recombining them on the surface of a plastic film to give energy to the surface of the plastic film, and thereby, only the mere surface of the plastic film is heated and a specific element at the surface of the plastic is selectively removed so that a surface of the plastic film chemically active and having a controlled surface profile is formed.
