PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new method for producing a highly reactive and low-volatile compound having double bond conjugated with an aromatic ring, capable of replacing a styrene monomer which is the object of regulation related to the environment such as PRTR system by using an inexpensive raw material by a simple synthetic method excellent in industrial productivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the compound having the double bond conjugated with the aromatic ring comprises subjecting a monocyclic aromatic compound to condensation reaction with an aldehyde or a ketone, acylating the product, reducing the acyl group to afford a hydroxy group, and dehydrating the compound to afford the double bond conjugated with the aromatic ring.
