PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorene compound having a carbazolyl group, and providing a material for an organic EL element, having excellent characteristics such as low-voltage drivability and long life because of having the high Tg and hardly crystallizing the molecule to easily provide a stable thin film. SOLUTION: The fluorene compound having the carbazolyl group is represented by general formula [1] äwherein, Ar<SP>1</SP>to Ar<SP>4</SP>are each independently a 6-18C monovalent aromatic hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent, a 2-18C monovalent heterocyclic group which may have a substituent, or a carbazolyl group represented by general formula [2] (wherein, Ar<SP>5</SP>is a 6-18C monovalent aromatic hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent, a 2-18C monovalent aromatic heterocyclic group which may have a substituent, or a 1-6C aliphatic hydrocarbon group which may have a substituent; and R<SP>16</SP>to R<SP>22</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a monovalent organic residue); with the proviso that at least one of Ar<SP>1</SP>to Ar<SP>4</SP>is the carbazolyl group represented by general formula [2]; Q<SP>1</SP>to Q<SP>16</SP>are each independently a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom or a monovalent organic residue}.
