<p>The process for degassing of a liquid or pasty medium (1) e.g. a coated color for coating of paper or cardboard, comprises introducing medium to be degassed into a vacuum deaerator (4), degassing the medium and separately discharging the gas and the degassed medium. After the vacuum degassing, the degassed medium is subjected to a cyclone deaerator (8). A developed gas containing volume flow (11) and/or foam and a volume flow in the degassed medium are discharged separately from each other. The degassing in the deaerator is carried out directly before the coating of paper or cardboard. A differential pressure between an inlet and an outlet of the cyclone deaerator is adjusted to 1.5-2.5 bar. The gas containing volume flow and/or foam is introduced into a work container, circulated in an individual degassing step or discarded or degassed in the deaerator before introduction into the work container.
