A RF identification system 50 for a vehicle, e.g. seat system 52, includes an inductive transponder 54 transmitting a status request signal to a first radio frequency identification tag 58 coupled to an in-vehicle tagged element, e.g. seat belt buckle 60. The tag 58 inductively generates a current status signal associated with the in-vehicle element 60 in response to the status request signal, e.g. the tag 58 indicates when the sear belt tongue 61 is latched into the buckle 60. The status request signal may be inductively received by multiple radio frequency identification tags (84, 86 fig.3) that are associated with the in-vehicle RF tagged element (82 fig.3). A current status signal is transmitted from the radio frequency identification tags (84, 86 fig.3) to the transponder 54. The use of two RF tags provides a backup and improves knowledge of the given switch. |
