An apparatus and a method for obtaining a preamble in an orthogonal frequency division multiple access mobile communication terminal are provided to reduce an acquisition time for the preamble by simplifying an acquisition process of the preamble through a pre-process using a pseudo noise code. A first pseudo noise code generation unit(430) generates a first pseudo noise code having a bit stream with at least one bit. A first correlation calculation unit(410) generates a first correlation value by calculating a correlation of a preamble signal of a received frequency region with the first pseudo noise code in a first correlation interval. A first correlation value comparison determination unit(420) compares the first correlation value with a first threshold value, and determines a generation of a second pseudo noise code according to the comparison result. A second pseudo noise code generation unit(460) generates the second pseudo noise code to locate the same code with the first pseudo noise code on a specific bit according to the determination result. A second correlation calculation unit(440) generates a second correlation value by calculating a correlation of the preamble signal with the second pseudo noise code in a second correlation interval. A preamble acquisition determination unit(450) compares the second correlation value with a second threshold value, and determines an acquisition state of the preamble. |
