Vinyldiene chloride copolymers - from 2-rthylhexylacrylate and a lower acrylate

Vinylidene chloride (I) copolymers, which are easy to process to a film, are produced by discontinuous polymerisation of a mixt. of 90 - 94 (wt.) % 1,3 - 4% 2-ethylhexyl acrylate (II) and 2 - 6% 1 -5C-acrylate (III). The copolymer has good extrusion qualities and no plasticers or stabilisers are needed to improve its processability. It is suitable for extrusion and esp. for making blow moulded films, which can be heat sealed and used in shrinking-on applications. It can also be used for melt coating paper etc. The copolymer pref. is prepd. by suspension polymerisation, using the total amt. of II and only part of I and III in the initial charge.
