A continuous process for manufacturing a multilayered wound dressing (10) including an apetured wound contact layer (13), an absorbent material layer (12), and a backing layer (11). The process includes providing a substantial ly continuous first web (19) including layer (13) and a first process lelease liner (15),forming a plurality of apetures (14) through layer (13), applying layer (12) to layer (13), laminating a sbstantially continuous web of layer (11) over layer (12) to form a composite web, and cutting individual multilayered dressing (10) from the composite web.
