A drum type washing machine having a guard rail is provided to prevent an article from dropping outside a cabinet by installing the guard rail at the border of a top plate of the cabinet so that the guard rail can appear. A drum type washing machine includes a cabinet, a guard rail(60), a drive shaft(70), and a motor(80). The cabinet forms a predetermined space. A top plate is installed in the cabinet. The guard rail is installed in the top plate so that the guard rail can appear. The drive shaft is installed in the guard rail and is slidably installed in the cabinet. A rotational shaft geared with the drive shaft is installed in the motor. The motor is installed in the interior of the cabinet. A groove part into which the guard rail is inserted is formed at the border of the top plate.
