A PORTABLE MOBILE APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR UPDATING FIRMWARE USING SYNCML

A mobile terminal and a method for updating firmware with SyncML are provided to update the firmware corresponding to a desired function by generating a version of each function, storing/managing version information in a separate space of the mobile terminal, and comparing the version of each function between the mobile terminals through the SyncML. A database(140) stores main and partial version information of the firmware. A SyncML processor(110) converts the firmware information stored in the database into SyncML information and converts the received SyncML information into the firmware information. A transceiver(120) transmits the SyncML information to other terminals and transfers the SyncML information received from another terminal(200) to the SyncML processor. A firmware comparator(130) determines a server and a client, and the firmware to be updated by comparing the received firmware information with the firmware information stored in the database. A code area(150) stores the firmware codes for operating the mobile terminal. Only the different firmware code corresponding to a different function version is updated to the code area.
