A mobile communication terminal and a method for recognizing key selection using a camera are provided to reduce input errors in the mobile terminal with a key pad by determining input data based on the recognition of a contact point between a selection module and a data input pen. It is determined whether a sensing signal according to the contact between a selection module and an indication tool is input from a sensor module. If the sensing signal is input, a control operation is performed such that an image including to the area of the selection module is photographed. A key button selection signal corresponding to the contact position between the selection module and the indication tool is generated from the image data.
