An image forming device and a method for preventing the separation of a fixing unit in the image forming device are provided to prevent a user from suffering a burn due to a high temperature of the fixing unit during replacement of the fixing unit. A controller(206) generates a locking control signal if a temperature of a fixing unit is higher than a predetermined temperature. A locking unit(210) prevents the fixing unit from being separated from an image forming device according to the locking control signal. The locking unit is fixed to the image forming device. The locking unit has a protruding member, wherein the protruding member is expanded and contracted according to the locking control signal, and joined to the fixing unit(202).
