Benzocyclohepta-thiophenes Cpds. (I) useful as anti histamines and when A-B (see below) is -CH2-CO- antiserotonin and anticholinergic agents. (where R1 is H, hal or 1-4C alkoxy, R2 is 1-4C alkyl and A-B is -CH2-CO- or CO-CG2) are prepd. by hydrolysing compds. (I) where A-B is CH=CX or CX=CH and X is OAlkyl or N(R4)CH2R3, R3 is 1-4C alkyl and R4 is H or 1-4C unbranched on alpha-C or a heterocyclic N contg. ring opt. contg. a further O, S or opt. substd. N atom or by alkylating a cpd. (I, A-B=CH2CO R2 = H), Cpds. (I) where A-B to -CH-CY or -CY-CH- and Y is halogen are useful as intermediates in forming (I) A-B is CH2CO or COCH2). |
