A parking device for an automatic transmission is provided to reduce a size of the parking device by implementing a sprag, which is operated by an electromagnet, in the automatic transmission. A parking device for an automatic transmission includes a sprag housing(5), a sprag shaft(11), a return spring(19), and an electromagnet(21). The sprag housing, which is formed at a case of an automatic transmission, includes a spring holder(7) therein and a groove to be implemented the electromagnet. The sprag shaft includes a sprag cam(13) to couple with a parking gear(1) and a retainer(17). The return spring, which is supported at the spring holder, elastically supports the sprag shaft. The electromagnet, which is mounted in the groove, generates an electromagnetic force by receiving a parking range signal from an inhibit switch, and provides a pushing force, which pushes the sprag shaft toward the parking gear.
