A method for automatically controlling video and speech modes of a digital television is provided to be capable of setting video and speech modes which are optimized to a genre of the broadcasting program while comparing controlled values with each other on a divided screen. Video and speech modes for each genre of a broadcasting program are set(S10). It is determined whether an automatic control mode is applied to video and speech(S20). Broadcasting information is received in case of the automatic control mode(S30). The genre of a broadcasting program and a broadcasting time are checked in accordance with the received broadcasting information(S40). The video and speech are outputted for the checked broadcasting time by video and speech modes which are set according to the checked genre of the broadcasting program.
