It is intended to devise a technique of measuring a a-amyloid in a biological specimen such as blood and apply the same to the diagnosis of Alzheimer s disease. Alzheimer s disease can be examined by measuring the total content of a-amyloid 1-42 and a-amyloid 1-42 fragments having the C-terminal part of a-amyloid 1-42 in a biological specimen by using an immunoassay method wherein an antibody capable of recognizing the C-terminal part of a-amyloid1-42 is employed. It is preferable that the above immunoassay method is a competitive immunoassay method.
